Caliente Restaurant & Bar sits on Ennalls Avenue in Silver Spring, a few blocks off Georgia — the kind of neighborhood spot where the grill smoke, the music and the crowd all hit you at the door.

The kitchen works both sides of the room: fresh ceviche mixto and guacamole mashed to order for the table, then charcoal-grilled carne asada, fajitas and mixed parrilladas that come out sizzling. The bar keeps margaritas, micheladas and cold Mexican lagers moving all night.

Weeknights it plays like a family restaurant — Sunday afternoons are busy with big tables. Weekends, especially holidays like Cinco de Mayo, the room turns into a party with a DJ-loud energy. Either way the kitchen and bar stay open until 3 AM, which makes Caliente one of the last good meals in the area.
